Fall Colors and Chattajack

A long time ago, the Fall Color Cruise festival was a tradition on this part of the Tennessee River (Lake Nickajack). Boaters from other marinas would cruise over here for the festival and the legendary potluck parties. We were lucky to be here for those fun times. The festival is no more. But ...

We have Chattajack! The paddling race that navigates the twist and turns of the scenic Tennessee River, all 31 miles of it from downtown Chatanooga to our marina at the old dam at Lake Nickajack. The event was last Saturday. The foliage was not exactly spectacular, thanks to the dry and warm weather. But what a lovely day it was (74 degrees F)! We kayaked out to cheer them and take some pictures/videos.

this brilliant color caught my attention at the Arts Bluff's district
Fall won't be the same without some bright cherry chrysanthemums (from my garden, I might add).
A Trader Joe's opened in Chattanooga last summer. I was in the store last week and was so delighted to find some apple cider donuts! According to their Fearless Flyer, they came from a family-owned bakery in Western Massachusetts. We used to go apple picking in Massachusetts, so we know how yummy those treats are :-) Perfect with a cup of tea or coffee.

How are the fall colors in your neck of the woods?

  5. Fall is my favorite time of the year. We used to live in New York and the apple picking and cider donuts were my favorite part of the season. Sadly, we don't live near a farm to pick apples. My in-laws went picking a few weeks ago and the price for half a bushel of apples went up to $48! Crazy!!
    The Chrysanthemum is gorgeous.
    Happy Tea day,
    Kate

    1. Last time we went apple picking was in Massachusetts in 2018? I remember it was $20 a bag. Wow, inflation is for real! The orchards in TN and Northwest GA charge an entrance fee to go and pick your own! They now make cider donuts too.

  6. That looks like a great race and lots of fun. And you can't beat cider donuts and a New England day in the apple orchard. (Being a life long New Englander myself-I'm partial. :) Hope it was a super T day.

    1. I don't blame you about partial. I've had my share of them delicious donuts in Mass (Berkshires and north of Boston) :-)

  7. I enjoyed reading about the race. What a lot of twists and turns. It is truly amazing.

Your chrysanthemums are really lovely. I like how you brought some in to decorate your table. To be hones, I've never heard of apple cider donuts, but they look yummy. I bet it went well with your coffee.

Thanks for sharing the Chattajack, fall colors, and your donuts and coffee with us for T this Tuesday, dear Eileen.

    1. Thank you Elizabeth. We had the Chattajack race this past Saturday. It was 80 degrees in the afternoon!. We cheered from the docks this time.
Cider donuts originated in Massachusetts, if I'm not mistaken. Other orchards have noticed, and last year a friend got us some from Ellijay, Ga, a big apple producer in this area.
