Yesterday, we were so excited to see a paddlewheel steamboat passing by our marina! We grabbed our phone in a hurry and ran out to take pictures. This Southern Belle was going fast!
Per the ship's itinerary, it left Memphis on Jun 8 for a 7-day cruise to Chattanooga, TN with stops at New Madrid (Missouri), Paducah (Kentucky), Savannah (Tennessee), Florence (Alabama), and Decatur (Alabama). Last evening, it did an overnight cruise back to Memphis. No wonder it was flying last night, taking advantage of the calm river on this beautiful summer day.
We are not fond of the strong currents or commercial traffic on the Mississippi River, so we have not attempted to cruise on it. But, we love the history and stories of the river and towns that lined it. Perhaps we'll take a cruise on one of AQSC''s ships, from Memphis to New Orleans, one of these days.

After doing some research on the internet, we learned this is the American Countess. American Queen Steamboat Company (AQSC) had refitted it from an old casino boat to create a brand new ship that debuted in March this year. You can read the details here.

Would you go on an American river cruise?

beautiful views there on the Tennessee river
ReplyDeleteHi Carol,
DeleteTN River is really pretty, wide and deep. Very easy to navigate and lots of wildlife and beautiful rocky mountains.
I think I would really enjoy one of those river cruises but not yet. Until the pandemic is under control I won't be going on any cruises.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you. I too would wait it out, until next year, to travel.
DeleteI am ready to cruise to be honest, but I'll wait a few more months to do that. You know I've been dying to try these cruises but they are just beyond my price range.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
I probably won't do a cruise any time soon, unless I find a real good deal :-)
DeleteOooooo! Memphis to New Orleans sounds like FUN!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading Tina!
DeleteYes, Memphis to NOLA would be so much fun!
I'd love to go on a river cruise. Either here in the States or in Europe.
ReplyDeleteI had a friend who paddled a kayak the length of the Mississippi River from its headwaters to the Gulf of Mexico a couple years ago. He said navigating the river with currents, and big barge trains, was a challenge.
We would love to go on a river cruise in Europe or do the one From Memphis to NOLA.
DeleteYou friend sure is adventurous! Navigating the Mississippi is no easy feat, let alone on a kayak! Wonder how long it took him to do the whole length?
How wonderful ~ boating activity ~ I enjoyed riding on the paddle boats ~ Xo

What a fun cruise that would be. We love boats and have two that we love to cruise in. Water and boats are a wonderful combination.

ReplyDeleteI am not very fond of cruises as I am more like forest person :) but it is always good to see your new posts!
So nice to hear from you Elo! We have mountains over here too. With lots of waterfalls. You, John and the kids will like it. Coming back to visit any time soon?
DeleteGreat shots.
ReplyDeleteGreetings and Salutations! I like how you did research on the photographs you took like name of ship, where it was going and the map was priceless! Thank you. I would not go take a cruise right now for safety reasons.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting. I'm always curious (thank goodness for internet!) and like to visualize the locations on a map. Glad you find it helpful.
DeleteBeautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYes, that sounds like fun! I'm still a little cautious about tight, crowded places like cruise boats, but even so...
ReplyDeleteI've always been intrigued with the European river cruise. Just didn't the cruise ships are starting to do it here.
DeleteI'm afraid that sounds a bit scary to me to be on a cruise just now, but I'm glad you feel ready to take it on! Thanks for sharing at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2021/06/a-visit-to-garden.html
